2020 - The Highland Backpacking Trail in Algonquin Park

Tent: MEC Wanderer 2

Pack: Fjallraven Kajka 65L

Sleeping Bag: Half of a North Face Dolomite Double 20 to use as a quilt

We’re sticking close to home in 2020 — but luckily a short drive up to Algonquin Park brought us some gorgeous lakes (and a lot of mosquito bites).

Tips for hiking in Algonquin:

  • Campsites have to be booked in advance and you must camp at designated campsites. Book early!

  • Bring bug spray and aim to hike in August/September after black fly and deer fly season have passed.

  • Campsites are all on lakes with easy water access, but bring lots of water when you are hiking between campsites because the trail doesn’t always allow easy access for filtering.

  • Campsites don’t have bear boxes so be prepared to hang a bear bag.

  • You can gather wood for campfires but don’t cut or damage any living trees.
