2020 - The Highland Backpacking Trail in Algonquin Park
Tent: MEC Wanderer 2
Pack: Fjallraven Kajka 65L
Sleeping Bag: Half of a North Face Dolomite Double 20 to use as a quilt
We’re sticking close to home in 2020 — but luckily a short drive up to Algonquin Park brought us some gorgeous lakes (and a lot of mosquito bites).
Tips for hiking in Algonquin:
Campsites have to be booked in advance and you must camp at designated campsites. Book early!
Bring bug spray and aim to hike in August/September after black fly and deer fly season have passed.
Campsites are all on lakes with easy water access, but bring lots of water when you are hiking between campsites because the trail doesn’t always allow easy access for filtering.
Campsites don’t have bear boxes so be prepared to hang a bear bag.
You can gather wood for campfires but don’t cut or damage any living trees.
